Children's Dance Theatre of the Virginia Tanner Dance Program at the University of Utah is taking its concert, "True North," to Ogden.
The show, which debuted last April, was inspired by the mythology of the native Taku people in the Arctic tundra. Depicted within the dance are mythical characters and elements including Father Sun, Mother Earth, talking animals and the famous Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights.
The program is divided into 12 pieces and follows a little girl named Tula.ann, or "kindness" in the Tlingit language," who was adopted by the Taku people after she was found abandoned outside their village. As she grows, Tula.ann discovers she is a star child, and her parents are the sun and moon.
"True North" plays Friday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Weber State University's Browning Center for the Performing Arts, Ogden. Tickets are $12, $8 for children, $10 for seniors and $30 for a family of six, available at 801-626-8500 or http://www.weberstatetickets.com.
