2011 • E-book sales have become so successful, the New York Times will begin publishing the e-book bestseller lists for fiction and non-fiction next year, according to the newspaper.

The data will be compiled from a variety of sources, including online retailers and chain bookstores. The Times has been the recognized source of the book bestseller lists since it began printing them in 1935.

According to the Association of American Publishers, e-book sales for August increased 174 percent compared to the same month in 2009. Nine percent of overall book sales were of e-books.
