Sandy • Jordan pitchers were in a no-win situation Tuesday afternoon.

Control issues led to hit batters and walks. Strikes were redirected all over the field by a hard-hitting Bingham team that plans to be playing well into May.

The visiting Miners pounded out 11 hits in three innings of a mercy rule-shortened 16-0 Region 3 victory.

Junior pitcher Nicole Wall allowed one hit and struck out five against an overmatched Jordan (3-2) team beaten by double figures for the second consecutive outing.

Wall was equally as impressive at the plate. The lefty had three hits and four RBIs for Bingham, which scored 10 runs in the third inning.

"When you dealing with a little slower pitcher, the most important part is letting the ball get into your zone, staying strong and getting your bat speed up," said Wall, who doubled in a run during a six-run second inning, then nearly wiped out Jordan starter Jordan Granderath with a line drive up the middle.

Jaydan Jensen hit a two-run inside-the-park home run and Brynn Robertson had two hits and two RBIs apiece for the Miners (6-3), who won their fourth straight game.

The only thing to slow Bingham's offense was a steady wind from left-center field that knocked down at least two would-be home runs. The Miners flexed their muscle last week with eight home runs in a 16-1 pounding at Lehi.

"We had that barrage Thursday against Lehi, and it was like, 'Wow, where did that come from?' " Bingham coach Mikki Jackson said. "They're hitting pretty well. But we'll get faced with some challenges. We've got Herriman and Bear River later in the week, and that will give us a chance to adjust to some different styles of pitching."

It will be pitching similar to what Bingham saw in Laughlin, Nev., during a season-opening tournament. The Miners faced nationally-ranked competition, which Jackson hopes will help prepare the Miners for the rest of the season.

"We beat some solid teams down there," Jackson said. "I think that confidence just carries. I know we have some teams here that are going to know our strengths and weaknesses better. Some of the things we got away with there might not happen here." —
