Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks have opened for the winter season.

Officials have been working on packing and grooming roads in the two national parks to make them usable for snowmobiles, cross-country skis and snowcoach travel.

The winter plan in Yellowstone allows for 318 commercially guided snowmobiles and up to 78 snowcoaches.

The roads that link West Yellowstone, Mammoth Hot Springs and the parks are open. The East Entrance road and Sylvan Pass are scheduled to open Dec. 22.

In the Old Faithful area, the Geyser Grill, the Bear Den Gift Shop and the Old Faithful Visitor Education Center are open. The Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Cabins and the dining room open Dec. 18.

The Teton Park Road in Grand Teton National Park is a designated winter trail and is open to nonmotorized use including Nordic skiing and snowshoeing.
