Provo • Either coaches and media members who vote in college basketball polls have short memories, or they were impressed by BYU's wins over Weber State and UTEP last week.

The Cougars (12-1) jumped seven spots in both the Associated Press Top 25 poll and the ESPN/USA Today college basketball rankings on Monday, landing at No. 16 in both surveys.

BYU has now been ranked in the AP Top 25 for 19 straight weeks, the second-longest such streak in school history.

Having lost 86-79 to UCLA on Dec. 18, the Cougars dropped to No. 23 last Monday.

However, they moved back into the top 20 after a 72-66 win at Weber State and an 89-68 blowout of UTEP.

The Mountain West Conference's only unbeaten team, 14-0 San Diego State, remained at No. 7 in both polls. UNLV is the leading team among schools also receiving votes and would be No. 26 in both polls if they extended that far.

BYU travels to New York to take on Buffalo on Thursday, then returns to Provo to play host to Fresno-Pacific on Saturday.
