Sometimes the work of creating art isn't just about performance, but about the backstage work of creating a scene.
That's why we're focusing on this handful of emerging creatives who aren't waiting their turn to be noticed by the professionals. Instead, they're launching their own, whether it's a democratic dance movement or a video-active theater company or a new-school bakery. (Vegan Twinkies, anyone?) Artists, rock musicians, slam poets: Consider these representatives a sign that the Do-It-Yourself generation is on its way.
