Posted: 1:05 PM- FARMINGTON - The Davis County Commission joined forces Tuesday with the Utah Transit Authority and at least four cities to seek federal funds to develop a trail along the historic Denver and Rio Grande Western rail corridor.
The 24-mile route, expected to be usable in 2009, would connect Weber County's West Haven on the north to Davis County's West Bountiful on the south. Eventually, it would tie into Salt Lake County's Jordan River Parkway.
"It presents a great opportunity for commuters," said Barry Burton, assistant community and economic development director for Davis County.
Burton was referring to two-wheeled commuters - people who one day could bicycle across two county lines to get to work each day, rather than idling in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the freeway.
