Murray • Owners of a five-run lead through three innings, the Bingham Miners saw that lead completely evaporate by the end of seven full innings of baseball on Wednesday.

What was nice for Bingham, however, was that host Cottonwood had come back to tie — not win — the ballgame. And the Miners took advantage of the reboot and ended up beating the Colts 11-6 in 10 innings.

"We did escape. Luck sometimes plays a larger role than some of the skill stuff," said Bingham coach Joey Sato, whose team stayed unbeaten in Region 3. "We felt very fortunate, for sure, to come over here against a good ballclub like that — and get a win."

The winning rally was a six-run top of the 10th for Bingham (10-1, 8-0), more than enough to counter one final run by Cottonwood (8-4, 3-2) in the bottom of the frame.

After scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth, the Miners began the 10th with a single by Nick Burdette. Two batters later, Bingham catcher Copper Hansen belted a pitch to deep center for a double that scored pinch-runner Nick Stevens.

That was just the beginning as the Miners got another double from Noah Wallick and a triple from Chad Wilson, part of a five-hit outburst.

"We had to get guys on base first and then get some timely hits," Hansen said. "We got that five-nothing lead, then they got some runs and came back. That's when we really had to start focusing."

Two Colts' errors in the top of the first led to a pair of early runs for the visitors, and Bingham got three more in the third — buoyed by extra-base hits from Wilson and Burdette.

But Cottonwood started clawing its way back with a single run, off a run-scoring single by Chris Rowan, in the fifth.

The Colts' sixth brought two more runs when Steven Dennis' two-out single to right scored both.

The comeback by the home team was complete in the seventh with two more runs. Porter Hodge hit an opposite-field single to right and, after a walk drawn by Dayj Piersall, Cottonwood tied the game on a grounder to short by Cade Perkins.

Bingham reliever Austin Tanner, though, got out of the inning — with runners at second and third — by inducing another grounder to short.

"I knew we'd pull through. We've prepared for games like this," said Miners third baseman Tate Farnsworth, who finished with three hits and two walks. "We just needed to stay composed and come through at the end."

Freshman pitcher Ross Dunn threw two shutout innings, before Bingham got to him in the 10th, but he wasn't the only young player on the field for the Colts. Cottonwood also had three sophomores in its starting lineup.

"I'm happy because we got a lot of young guys in there who don't have much varsity experience," Colts coach Jason Crawford said. "I'm proud of the way our guys responded and played the second half of the game." —
