Orem • The Box Elder Bees returned to the top rung of 4A wrestling for the first time since 2006, and they did it in impressive fashion winning the team title by 130 points.

The Bees left little doubt after Thursday's semifinal rounds by advancing seven wrestlers to the championships. Five of those wrestlers claimed titles as the Bees broke a team record by having 15 wrestlers earn podium appearances.

"We've been building this team since junior high," said senior Koleton Hardy who claimed his second straight state title. "When we won the Layton tournament the way we did I was pretty confident we would win state."

The five champions from Box Elder are Rasten Yates (135), Cody Bunderson (140), Koleton Hardy (152), Sean Smith (215), Shane Hardy (285). Senior Sean Smith said the secret to the Bees success is found in the training room.

"Our guys work extremely hard in practice every day," said 215 pound Box Elder champ Sean Smith. "Even the guys that didn't place are giving 100 percent in the wrestling room every day."

Maple Mountain finished a distant second (312-182) and claimed three individual champions in Brandon George (103), Britian Carter (112) and Grant Lamont (130).

Bees Coach Mike Ripplinger said the 2011 championship team broke numerous team records in bringing the title back to Brigham City. "We were undefeated in tournaments and 23-0 in duels," said Ripplinger. "Five state champions is a record and the fifteen place winners breaks our team record of 12."

Defending Champion Payson finished a distant third and crowned two champions in Jed Mellen and Mitch Brown.
