The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will begin selling units Monday in one of downtown Salt Lake City's tallest buildings.

Prices in the 30-story Promontory on South Temple condominium project range from $145,000 to more than $1.5 million. On the southeast corner of South Temple and West Temple, the 185-unit building is part of the church's massive City Creek development. When completed next year, it will include offices, shops, restaurants, a grocery store, condos and apartments.

With its 30 stories and 344,000 square feet, Promontory is the largest and tallest residential structure that will be built at City Creek, church officials say. It is across from the church's Temple Square at 99 W. South Temple.

According to the church, the high rise's 626- to 645-square-foot studio units will be priced from $145,000. One-bedroom units (with 943 to 1,353 square feet of space) will start at $255,000. The price of two-bedroom units, with 1,295 to 2,023 square feet of space, begins at $367,000. "Premium" units and penthouses with 2,256 to 3,406 square feet of space are priced $1.5 million and up.

Promontory is one of four condominium projects in the City Creek development.

The twin 10-story Richards Court towers already have opened across from Temple Square at 45 and 55 W. South Temple. Two-thirds of the 90 units, priced from the $200,000s to more than $2 million, are still for sale.

The church also is erecting the 20-story Regent building at 35 E. 100 South. It will have 150 units and is scheduled for completion in mid- to late 2011.

LDS Church officials said 65 percent of Regent's 150 units are reserved. How many of these reservations will be converted into actual sales won't be known until closings commence.

Since the church began building City Creek, the real estate market along the Wasatch Front has deteriorated, leading the church to lower asking prices on some of its condo units. The church said the fourth planned condo tower won't be built until demand warrants its construction. —
