For years, various private concessionaires have had contracts with Salt Lake City to operate Raging Waters, a popular water park on the city's west side.

Now, Seven Peaks, which has operated a similar facility in Provo since 1999, is taking over that contract. And Raging Waters, located at 1200 West and 1700 South, has been renamed Seven Peaks Waterpark Salt Lake.

Salt Lake City continues to own the land and the original wave pool that opened in 1980. Seven Peaks will operate the wave pool and the other water-based attractions, said Gary Brinton, a managing member of the company.

His firm takes over from a company called Raging Waters, which carried the management contract for the past 14 years.

Brinton said his company approached those owners in late 2010 and expressed interest in acquiring the city contract from the private operators. He declined to reveal the price tag and said the deal was closed earlier this month.

"Most improvements this first season will be in infrastructure: new pumps and motors," Brinton said. "We won't be adding any attractions this year, but expect to as time goes on."

He said the water park will follow standard Seven Peaks policies: closed on Sundays, charging for parking to encourage carpooling, and not allowing food from the outside within the water park's boundaries.

An annual pass, known as the "Pass of All Passes," will be offered for $39 each. In addition to unlimited admission to the water park, it includes admission to four Real Salt Lake soccer games, four Utah Grizzlies hockey games, a pass to Utah Blaze home games and admission to six major races at Rocky Mountain Raceway.

Seven Peaks WaterPark Salt Lake includes a 500,000-gallon wave pool, a kiddie-pool area, various slides and a lazy river that winds through the park.

In addition to Seven Peaks in Provo, the company owns two Trafalga Fun Centers in Orem and Lehi.
