Authorities are reminding motorists that I-15 is scheduled to be closed in both directions on Saturday night in Utah County as crews move a new bridge into place at Sam White Lane — and the public is being invited to watch the work.

The 354-foot bridge weighing 3.8 million pounds is the longest two-span bridge ever moved by Self Propelled Modular Transporters in the Western Hemisphere, according to the Utah Department of Transportation. It was built in a field near the freeway, and will be moved into place in one night to help reduce freeway restrictions from construction.

The freeway is scheduled to be closed between the American Fork Main Street and Pleasant Grove Boulevard interchanges from 11 p.m. Saturday until 10 a.m. Sunday.

During the closure, I-15 traffic will be detoured along American Fork Main Street, State Street, 2000 West and Pleasant Grove Boulevard. Motorists should be advised Geneva Road at I-15 will also be closed that evening and to follow the suggested detour routes for the most efficient travel time.

The public is being invited to watch the work from the parking lot of the Utah Valley Business Park.
