The Utah AIDS Foundation will honor Utah Pioneers in HIV on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center Hotel.

The foundation will honor:

• Sisters of the Holy Cross of Utah, the first to admit and care for AIDS patients in their hospital in Salt Lake City.

• Physician Kristen Ries, the first clinician to treat AIDS patients in Utah.

• Physician James Mason, former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, who made the decision to allow young AIDS patient Ryan White to attend school.

• Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, who co-sponsored the Ryan White Care Act, the first federally-funded program for people with HIV/AIDS.

The Utah Pioneers in HIV Event is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Zions Bank.

The Utah AIDS Foundation advocates, educates and provides HIV testing at no and low cost. Free testing is provided on the first Monday of each month.
