Two people had a hard landing during a helicopter training flight near South Valley Regional Airport.

On Wednesday afternoon, an Upper Limit Aviation instructor and his student were out on a training flight when the helicopter had an engine failure that forced them to the ground.

Sgt. Drew Sanders with West Jordan police said the two were able to control the aircraft and land near 6752 South and Airport Road in a somewhat upright position. The helicopter is inoperable.

Both men were treated at the scene. The student suffered minor head injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the crash.

"We're glad this didn't end in a greater tragedy," Sanders said.
