As part of a national campaign aimed at hiring 50,000 full- and part-time people, managers at McDonald's restaurants in Utah, western Wyoming and eastern Nevada conducted interviews Tuesday to place up to 600 applicants in jobs.

The recruitment effort attracted Taylorsville Mayor Russ Wall and state economic development director Spencer Eccles to the McDonald's restaurant at 5571 S. Redwood Road, touting the value of adding jobs to the community.

McDonald's spokeswoman Barbara Schmiett said in Utah all McDonald's restaurants are independently owned franchises, divided among 23 local owner/operators. Together, they employ roughly 5,760 people and contribute $122 million annually to Utah's economy, she added.
