The American Fork High School Marching Band has been invited to participate in the prestigious Tournament of Roses Parade, better known as the Rose Parade, in January 2012.

The Tournament of Roses committee chooses 17-20 bands worldwide that apply to march in the Rose Parade ,which is watched on television worldwide in more than 200 international territories and countries.

American Fork High School Marching Band was petitioned by the Rose Bowl for participation after an impresssive performance at Bands of America Grand Nationals in Indiana, November 2009.

(This has not been the first time for American Fork High School. They participated in the Rose Bowl Parade for the first time in 1998. In the last 30 years there have been two bands invited from Utah: Davis High School Marching Band and American Fork High School Marching Band.)

The president of The Rose Bowl Parade, Richard Jackson and his wife, Sharon, will come from Pasadena to Utah to give recognition to the band and to award them The Rose Parade Flag. They will be in Utah from May 10-13.

On Tuesday May 10, they will be at American Fork High School for a press conference and meet-and-greet with the Marching band from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. and to attend a AFHS band concert that evening at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend both events.

On Jan. 1, 2012, the football teams of the Coast Guard Academy and Stanford will face off.

Ok, that last part is not true.

The game is on the second of the month.
