The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence recently gave Utah a zero rating for its gun laws and awarded the Beehive State the special honor of having "the craziest gun law" for allowing guns on college campuses ("'Craziest laws': Utah scolded by national gun-violence group," Tribune May 6). Rep. Curt Oda, R-Clearfield, said he's glad for the zero rating.

That may not surprise many, but Oda went on to say: "We continually push for safety and education. But the 'antis' don't want education. They just want an all-out ban." How is it that any conservative can make such pro-education claims for guns and then fight any sort of sex-education classes in public schools?

It is hypocritical for conservatives who believe that firearm safety education would aid in decreasing gun-related deaths to then champion ignorance in sex education.
