Knives are not guns

I continue to be amused by the gun-toters who declare, "If we're going to ban guns because they're used to kill, we should ban knives, too!" ("Dangerous weapons," Forum, June 2).

When was the last time you read about a drive-by stabbing or a classroom being cut up by a disturbed student?

Can I buy a kit that allows me to modify my regular knife so I can stab multiple victims within a matter of seconds, while I stand at a safe distance? I don't think so.

It's simply a flawed argument, and it makes gun advocates look silly. Guns have one purpose, and that's to kill. Try cutting your baloney sandwich with a MAC-10 machine pistol.
