Leif Arrhenius of Brigham Young University has been named the Mountain West Conference men's student-athlete of the year in outdoor track and field.

The Orem native was the runner-up in both the discus and the shot put at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships last week, throwing 201 feet and 3 inches in the discus and 63-6 3/4 in the shot put. He earned first-team All-America honors with both performances.

TCU's Jessica Young was named the women's track athlete of the year, after finishing third in the 100 meters and 14th in the 200 at the national championships.
