Put full pads on a group of guys and guess what? They act like football players. Utah's first day in pads brought out the feistiness in the Utes with several players mixing it up. A couple players including defensive back Quade Chappuis and linebacker Chaz Walker made some nice hits while corner Ryan Lacy came up with a nice interception. Starting quarterback Jordan Wynn again didn't throw while media members could watch as he took it light for the second day in a row. How much he throws is up to the trainers to decide daily, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. Freshman Tyler Shreve took a lot of snaps in the last half of practice and really struggled with his accuracy more so than junior college transfer Jon Hays, who is listed as the No. 2 QB. Freshman Eric Rowe got a lot of work at the strong safety spot and was a standout of practice alongside Keith McGill. Whittingham said the move might not be permanent, but judging by all the glowing comments he has had for Rowe, I'd be surprised if he doesn't start ahead of Michael Walker, a sophomore who is listed as the starter at strong safety. More later!
