A Vernal police officer who put criminals behind bars for more than a decade suddenly found himself locked up.
Detective Ben Marland Murray, 36, had worked for the Vernal department for 12 years before his Aug. 11 arrest, said Keith Campbell, assistant police chief. Salt Lake County Jail records show Murray was arrested on suspicion of two counts of burglary
Campbell said Murray resigned from the force a day after his arrest.
Campbell confirmed that the alleged incidents happened while Murray was on duty, but referred all other questions to the Attorney General's Office, which he said was investigating the matter.
Attorney General spokesman Paul Murphy confirmed the agency's investigators made the arrest, but said as of Wednesday afternoon no formal charges have been filed.
He said he couldn't comment further about the matter unless charges were filed.
Campbell said Murray had no prior history of the alleged behavior during his time on the force, and said at no point was the public in danger.
