Brio Tuscan Grille is open at Fashion Place mall, serving wood-grilled meats and northern Italian fare.

A Tuscan country villa comes to mind at Brio, with hardwood cypress flooring, arched colonnades, Italian mosaics, antique-themed doors, walls covered in Venetian plaster and marble imported from Italy.

The restaurant will have its own flavor of Utah. Although there is a bar with seating for 42 diners, the state requires owners of new eateries to build a partition, or so-called Zion wall, to hide from public view open liquor bottles and bartenders.

Restaurant General Manager Daniel Hobbs said Brio aims to become part of the community. As part of that concept, it delivered a free lunch on Labor Day to Murray City firefighters, "to say thank you for your service," said Hobbs. Also, proceeds from an event staged at the Brio last week were given to the Boys & Girls Club of Murray.

"We're more than a restaurant," said Hobbs. "Our passion is for ongoing community involvement."

Hobbs describes Brio as an Italian chophouse. Steaks, chops and fish are wood-grilled or oven roasted, to go along with made-to-order pastas.

The 9,200-square-foot restaurant has indoor seating for 250 diners and patio accommodations for 85.

The location is Brio's first in Utah. There are 45 Brios nationwide as part of the Ohio-based Bravo Brio Restaurant Group. Bravo Brio operates 80 restaurants, including Bravo, Cucina Italiana and Bon Vie Bistro.
