When was the last time that you were promised a live performance that combines vaudeville, Moulin Rouge and the Arabian Nights, "set to fabulously infectious live music?"
Probably not recently. But if the hype surrounding "The Underground Gypsy Cabaret" multi-act show is to be believed, that's what you might get Friday at the Bar Deluxe.
The cabaret extravaganza celebrating the Fall Equinox includes:
• Juana Ghani, a Utah-based band that blends and warps rock, Old World ways and Gypsy lore. (Full disclosure: The Salt Lake Tribune's Tony Semerad is a member of Juana Ghani.)
• Decollatege, a band with an intriguing name by way of Belgium, Arizona and Utah, whose work is reminescent reminds some of Tom Waits and Django Reinhardt.
• Belly dancers Amanda Borba and Kelsey Covington, and aerial artist Hope and the burlesque of Miss Nyx of Sotto Voce.
Bar Deluxe, 666 S. State St., Salt Lake City. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $9. You've got to be 21 to get in. More information at: http://undergroundcabaret.blogspot.com/
