Long before zombies held monopoly over Halloween, Washington Irving's story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" was the spine-tingling grist by which most every Halloween theme was judged. Zion Theatre Company hopes audience members enjoy both the story's creepy vertigo and humorous moments in its production of "Legends of Sleepy Hollow." The script adaptation used here by Mahonri Stewart, which adds an intriguing plural to the well-worn title, won the Ruth and Nathan Hale Comedy Playwriting Award years ago, taking it to West Valley City's Hale Centre Theatre later on. The production casts Shea Potter as Ichabod Crane, Joshua French as Brom Bones, with Luci McNair as Katrina Van Tassel. Amy Jo Henderson directs. "People get a kick trying to scare each other, and they enjoy being scared themselves," states playwright Stewart in the production's press materials. "But I think there's even something more to ghost stories, there's something communal about them. ... The unknown is a thing that's hard to come to terms with."
