New U.S. Attorney David B. Barlow was spending his first full, official day on the job in Salt Lake City Thursday.

Barlow was nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate last month. Chief U.S. District Judge Ted Stewart administered Barlow's oath of office Wednesday morning.

Barlow previously worked as chief counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee for Utah Sen. Mike Lee.

He earned an undergraduate degree in political science at Brigham Young University and a law degree from Yale.

Barlow replaces Carlie Christensen, who had been serving as acting U.S. attorney. Utah went nearly two years without a presidentially appointed U.S. attorney after Brett Tolman resigned.
