Celtic Bank has purchased the Brooks Arcade building in downtown Salt Lake City for its new headquarters.

Terms of the sale by print shop chain AlphaGraphics, which occupies the second floor of the building at 268 S. State St., were not disclosed.

The industrial bank, which employs about 50 people and specializes in small-business loans, has one branch at 340 E. 400 South in Salt Lake City, said marketing director Alfred Quinn.

AlphaGraphics, as well as two restaurants and a handful of other tenants, will continue to lease space in the building, Quinn said. The bank purchased the building to continue with its expansion.

The 72,000-square-foot building, built in 1891 by Salt Lake City merchant Julius Brooks, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Ten years ago, AlphaGraphics Inc. completed a large-scale renovation and expansion of the structure. The original facade was restored and the building was more than doubled in size. Today, it contains about 18,000 square feet of street-level retail space and has several upscale residential condominiums on its top floor.
