One man was hospitalized in serious condition and another was behind bars Tuesday, the day after an altercation at a Midvale storage unit ended in a stabbing.

Unified Police Department Lt. Justin Hoyal said the victim, in his 30s, and his alleged assailant, in his-mid-40s, were part of a group of homeless men who pooled their funds to rent the unit at Midvale Self Storage at 7307 S. Cottonwood St. (367 West).

"They apparently had been staying there. The victim allegedly had been teasing the suspect and he didn't like it, pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim once" in the upper left chest area.

The victim initially was transported to a hospital in critical condition, but had been upgraded to serious condition by Tuesday, Hoyal said.

The suspect was booked into Salt Lake County Jail, where he remained Tuesday. He was being held without bail on suspicion of second-degree felony aggravated assault.
