Tonight, CBS shuffles one terrible sitcom onto its schedule in place of another. Although Rules of Engagement (7:30 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2) is probably a tiny bit less horrible than "How to Be a Gentleman."

The network's original plan was to air "Gentleman" on Thursdays after "The Big Bang Theory" and move "Rules of Engagement" to Saturdays at 7 p.m. But, as pretty much anybody who'd seen the pilot could have told the folks at CBS, "Gentleman" was a massive bomb on Thursday nights.

So after it aired twice, CBS canceled production of "Gentleman" (after nine episodes), and announced plans to run the seven unaired episodes on Saturdays. That lasted just one week - after abysmal ratings this past weekend, "Gentleman" is off the schedule altogether.

And "Rules of Engagement" moves to Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. It really is a terrible show, but, somehow, it survives. It's sort of CBS' version of "According to Jim."

In the sixth-season premiere, Liz tries to make her marriage to Russell work; Russell tries to end it.
