Washington State athletic director Bill Moos let the cat out of the bag a few months ago, but now it is official. BYU's Cougars will take on WSU's Cougars in a home-and-home football series beginning next year. Washington State and new coach Mike Leach, a BYU graduate, will play at BYU in the season-opener on Sept. 1, 2012. The Cougars will play in Pullman at Martin Stadium in 2013, but the specific date was not announced. Here's BYU's official announcement. It appears that BYU's 12 opponents in 2012 are now set. The Cougars will play host to Washington State, Weber State, Utah State, Oregon State, Hawaii and Idaho. They will travel to Utah, Boise State, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, New Mexico State and San Jose State. The Cougars will play in the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego after the 2012 season if they are bowl eligible and not inviting to play in a BCS bowl.
