"Indie Game: The Movie"

*** (Three stars)

You would never think the plight of independent video game makers would make a compelling documentary. But "Indie Game: The Movie" is a riveting, heartfelt journey of struggling artists who butt heads with deadlines, finances and their own self doubts. The first-time feature by Canadian filmmakers Lisanne Pajot and James Swirsky follows two sets of indie game developers as they try to finish their Xbox games after years of coding in self exile. Wracked with insecurities and their own brand of geeky neuroses, audiences will end up cheering for these hard-working game makers as they try to buck a mainstream gaming system with their unique visions of interactivity. With just a Canon DSLR and help from Kickstarter.com for funding, Swirsky and Pajot have created a beautiful and fascinating look into the creative process in a never-been-told medium.
