Throughout February, the Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable will sponsor a smorgasbord of religious activities, events and discussions for Utahns to get a glimpse into faiths beyond their own.

A decade ago, the group assembled religious leaders "to promote love, harmony and understanding among people of all faith traditions, cultures, and belief systems in the spirit of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games."

Since the Games, the Roundtable has continued to work toward that same end, celebrating common golden rule teachings as well as diverse approaches.

This year's annual Interfaith Month includes a Taize music-and-meditation service, a tour of an environmentally sensitive Mormon chapel in Bountiful, Christian Science readings, Pan Orthodox Vespers, a Buddhist presentation on humility and gratitude, a lecture on "women, children and elderly" from an Islamic perspective, prayer service at a Sikh temple, a discussion of human rights and civil dialogue and a "Gospel Extravaganza" at the Trinity AME Church and many other open houses and worship services.

As part of the festivities, Salt Lake City's Westminster College is sponsoring a semester-long series of lectures on various religious traditions, starting with Judaism on Feb. 16. The YWCA women's shelter is also holding a donation drive for churches to help supply the needs listed on the Y's "wish list.'

The monthlong series culminates on Feb. 26, with a musical tribute including sermons, speeches and performances by many faiths at the Tabernacle on LDS Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City. —
