Logan • It seems almost sacrilegious to think it would take half the Western Athletic Conference season for Utah State to accrue more league wins than losses.
But this year that rings true, as the Aggies have struggled to maintain their hold as an elite team within the WAC with a smallish frontcourt and a bundle of youth that has caused Stew Morrill more than his share of queasy moments.
Perhaps that explains the intensity of the Spectrum crowd on Saturday night as USU dispatched San Jose State 82-65 in a complete display of relentless offensive execution.
Utah State, for one night, looked like the program that won the previous four WAC titles. The Aggies, for 40 minutes, looked like they've been improving from the previous three weeks.
Next week, the WAC world finds out just how much improving this team has really done, as USU travels to Nevada on Thursday night. Against the Spartans, however, there's was no denying Utah State's dominance.
Utah State put five players in double-figures, led by Kyisean Reed's 21 points. The Aggies scored 47 first-half points, a season-high and they had an answer for every San Jose State rally.
