Salt Lake County Councilman Randy Horiuchi is improving after suffering a stroke on Friday.

The 57-year-old Democrat was in fair condition Monday — upgraded from serious condition — as he recuperates at the University of Utah Hospital.

"Randy is alert and enjoying monitoring the Jazz and the presidential candidates," said his wife, Frances, in a press release.

The family thanks all those who have expressed concern. Horiuchi is unable to accept visitors at this time and the family asks that their privacy is respected as he continues to recover.

There is no date yet for when Horiuchi will be released from the hospital.
