Feb. 16 • In one of the most stunning finishes of the Games, short-track speedskater Steven Bradbury of Australia astonishingly wins gold in the men's 1,000 meters by skating from far behind past a quartet of crashed competitors, including American Apolo Anton Ohno, who recovers for silver. Norway's Ole Einar Bjoerndalen wins his third gold of the Games in biathlon, while countryman Kjetil Andre Aamodt wins his second in super-G. Speedskater Joey Cheek of the U.S. claims bronze in the men's 1,000, where victorious Gerard van Velde of the Netherlands sets a world record.
