Utah's elected leaders, youth groups and prominent athletes and citizens are visiting veterans at the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City this week as part of the 2012 National Salute to Veteran Patients.

Gov. Gary Herbert kicked off the open house Tuesday morning, and valentines were to be distributed early in the afternoon. The open house continues at Salt Lake City's VA hospital through Friday during regular business hours.
