The decade-long debate between Pleasant Grove brothers Korbin and Kyson Levin as to who is the best wrestler in the house just had fuel thrown on the fire.

Senior Korbin picked up his third state title with a technical fall over Kearns wrestler Antonia Meikel. Twenty minutes earlier, sophomore Kyson picked up his first title with an 11-7 decision over fellow Viking Parker Christensen. The younger brother said his big brother's words of advice were never far from his thoughts.

"At the beginning of the year he just told me no matter what to never stop working in a match," said Kyson Levin.

The Levins were the only individual champions for the Vikings, but Pleasant Grove did enough damage in the afternoon semifinals and placing matches to secure a 237-209 team title over Viewmont.

With a repeat title under their belts, Vikings coach Brock Moore reflected on what the seniors have meant to the program.

"You know, you win another state title, but ultimately I'm going to miss those kids," he said. "We've worked so hard together, been through a lot of battles, and ultimately you learn to love them."

After finishing 11th last year, Viewmont moved up to second, with one individual champion in sophomore Tanner Palmer, who won 9-1 over Zane Sayers of Jordan.

"We had a tough morning, but I'm proud of our kids for fighting back and getting 11 of our wrestlers placed," said Vikings coach Brandon Ripplinger.

Alta finished third behind a pair of champions. Sophomore Matt Findlay captured his second title wrestling at 112 pounds, while senior Brandon Godfrey earned his first title with a technical fall over Tyler Johnson of Lone Peak.

What a few ticks of the clock can do — in the finals match between Mack Huntsman of Weber and Brayden Rhoton of American Fork, Rhoten led 8-4 with about 10 seconds left. Huntsman scored five points in the closing seconds with a huge throw and back points to get the upset.

During the announcements of the wrestlers during his match, it was announced that Paul Langi has a 3.4 GPA and that he loves his mother. Langi fell behind but scored late to secure a 7-6 win over Silas Olsen of American Fork. After hugging his coach, the next person Langi found for a hug was his mother.

And in the feel good/feel bad match of the night, Syracuse junior Zane Rich earned an 8-6 overtime win over West Jordan's Cody Paraso. While Rich was getting hugs from everyone in a raucous Syracuse fan section, Paraso was pondering the futility of two third-place finishes and an overtime loss in the finals to cap his Jags career. —
