The Salt Lake Tribune occasionally presents images from its archives in a special series called A Look Back. This installment shows the Berlin airlift and focuses on Lt. Gail S. Halvorsen, an airlift pilot from Garland, Utah, who became popular with German children because he has made it a practice to drop candy on each of his flights delivering other supplies to blockaded Berlin.
