Young and death defying

Mark Hedengren's "The Invincibility Fable" is a selection of more than 30 color photographs taken from a two-year photo project that led the photographer across the country as he visited a death-oblivious youth culture who gather at swimming holes across the South and Mountain West. "Swimming holes have a way to transcend age, class and creed; all are joined by the cool of the water," Hedengren says. The show will run through the summer — but plan ahead for UMOCA's First Friday opening party on May 4, 8 p.m., which will feature music, food and a cash bar.
