The Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA), a 2,900-member nonprofit professional organization, recently announced its roster of new officers.
Headquartered in South Salt Lake, UACPA connects members to training, professional networking and advocacy, job opportunities and technical support.
Roger Beynon, founder and owner of the tax and accounting firm of Beynon & Associates, was named president. As a CPA, Beynon specialized in auditing small hospitals and health care agencies, and in 2004 earned his fraud examiner certification. Beynon also served as board chairman for TransWest Credit Union for the past 16 years.
Kent Thomas, who founded the outsourcing finance firm Advanced CFO Solutions, was selected as UACPA's president-elect. Thomas also helped found the Olympus Angel Investors and has served in voluntary capacities with Grow Utah Ventures, CEDO, The Wayne Brown Institute, The Mountain West Capital Network and The Utah World Trade Center Organization.
Paul Skeen, an audit partner with the Salt Lake City-based accounting firm of Hansen, Barnett and Maxwell, was named UACPA's new vice-president. Skeen previously served as the Association's treasurer for three years.
Kyle Pexton, chief financial officer for Accelerated Payment Technologies, Inc., was selected as UACPA's treasurer. Peyton also has served as vice-president of Finance and Business Operations at Authorize.Net and CFO of the Sundance Group, LLC, a holding company that manages business and investment portfolios.
LeAnn Hatfield, the internal audit director for the state Department of Workforce Services, will continue as UACPA secretary. Since 2005, Hatfield has managed DWS's internal audit and contract monitoring groups.
Hollie Andrus, an audit supervisor who oversees the State's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, is UACPA's new member-at-large.
Susan Speirs, a managing member for Speirs & Associates, LLC, begins her second term as ex-officio board member for UACPA. Spiers currently chairs UACPA's Financial Literacy Task Force and also sits on the Utah Council of Economic Education, the State Board of Education, Council of Economic Education and the state's Jumpstart Coalition.
Wade Watkins, a principal with Pinnock, Robbins, Posey and Richins, is UACPA's immediate past president.
Michelle McGaughey, who previously directed education, technology and communications work for UACPA, was reappointed CEO and will oversee its five-member staff.
