It's a sweaty Southern stew brewing in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," the 1958 movie based on Tennessee Williams' play — which screens for one week, starting Friday, May 11, at the Tower Theatre, 876 E. 900 South, Salt Lake City.
Brick (Paul Newman) is an alcoholic ex-football player obsessed with his deceased best friend and the guilt over his strained marriage to Maggie (Elizabeth Taylor). Maggie loves Brick, but he resists her affection. Meanwhile, Brick's father, Big Daddy (Burl Ives), frets over the fact that Brick and Maggie are childless — while his other son Gooper (Jack Carson) is father to a bunch of "no-neck monsters."
The movie is part of the Salt Lake Film Society's "Tower Through Time" series, which this month concentrates on great screen actresses.
"Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" screens today through Thursday, May 17, at 4 p.m. Admission is $6.25.
