A 22-year-old woman was recovering Sunday, a day after her brother-in-law accidentally shot her in the stomach at an Ogden residence.

Police said the woman at about 10 p.m. Saturday asked her brother-in-law to show her how to clean a Glock handgun.

Police said the two removed the gun from a gun box, and the man removed the clip from the gun as he prepared to disassemble it.

But when he went to slide the bullet out of the chamber, police said the slide slipped out of his hand and the gun fired, shooting his sister-in-law in the stomach.

Police said she was transported for treatment to Ogden Regional Medical Center, where she was expected to be released Sunday.

Officers said they're investigating the incident, but they believe the shooting, which occurred in the 5300 block of Arapaho Drive, was an accident.
