Ogden Canyon was closed for more than two hours Thursday afternoon after a car chase suspect rammed an officer's car and a deputy shot the suspect's tire.

A male suspect in an attempted burglary in the Ogden Valley was taken into custody, said Weber County Sheriff's office Lt. Mark Lowther.

The initial call about the burglary came in at about 12:40 p.m. As deputies were responding they saw the suspect's 1987 BMW car headed west on State Road 39 near Trapper's Loop. Officers tried to stop the car, but were unsuccessful. The suspect fled, going as fast as 60 miles per hour before heading into Ogden Canyon.

During the chase, a Weber County Sheriff's deputy coming from the other direction used his pickup truck to block the two lane road, Lowther said. The suspect came to a stop and put the car into reverse. The suspect "then started ramming" the deputy's truck that had followed him into the canyon, Lowther said.

A deputy got out of his truck and shot the driver's side front tire of the car. Deputies also broke the window and deployed a Taser on the man, but it failed to subdue him, according to Lowther. Officers, however, were able to pull the man out of the broken window of the car and take him into custody.

The canyon was closed from about 1 p.m. until just after 3 p.m.

No injuries were reported, but the front end of the deputy's pickup truck was damaged.
