Let there be light at the Salt Palace.
At a "Flip the Switch" ceremony Thursday, Salt Lake County officials and partners in energy-efficiency endeavors formally finished the installation of a solar panel system on the convention center's roof.
Covering 600,000 square feet, Utah's largest solar rooftop installation is capable of generating 1.65 megawatts of electricity. The system is expected to provide 17 percent of the Salt Palace's annual power needs.
Joining Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon in the unveiling ceremony were Visit Salt Lake President and CEO Scott Beck, Andrew McKenna of Bella Energy, David Sagers of Chase Bank and Chuck Depew of the National Development Council.
