Directions • From the visitors center in Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park, follow the main road southwest for 6 miles. Turn left (south) at the junction and drive about 3 miles. The trail head to Murphy Point Overlook is marked on your right.

Murphy Point Overlook gives a great view of the lower elevations of Canyonlands National Park. You also can see a turn of the Green River in the distance. From the trail head, the well-marked path is sandy and cuts through grasslands. There is one junction at about a ½ mile. Stay to the right. Halfway to the overlook, you will go over a rise where you'll start to see views of the park. The trail turns to slickrock. Follow the cairns to the overlook. The trail has blooming cactus in the spring. In the summer, a lack of shade can make this hike hot. Murphy Point Overlook — Canyonlands
