A Boy Scout was recovering Monday, several days after authorities said he fell about 40 feet while trying to rappel in Grand County.

Grand County Sheriff's Sgt. Archie Walker said the 16-year-old was rapelling with other troop members about 3:30 p.m. Friday on the Morning Glory Arch in Negro Bill Canyon.

Walker said when the scout fell, he reported injuring his back. He said the county's search and rescue team responded and a medical helicopter flew the teen to a local hospital for treatment.

Walker said the teen was expected to recover.

He said the accident appeared to have been caused by inexperience.
