When David Pershing was chosen to lead University of Utah this winter, he vowed to tour the state to see how the state's flagship institution can do a better job addressing the broader needs of Utah. This summer, he hits the road to make good on that promise.
"It's a journey across Utah to stop at some timeless landmarks, introduce myself to the leaders of Utah's other universities and colleges, and generally explore ways to expand our collaboration with entities all across this great state," said a statement from Pershing, a chemical engineer who had previously served as U. provost for 13 years.
The Great Red Road Trip kicks off Monday with several stops in southern and central Utah, meeting with college leaders at gatherings where the public is invited. Here's the week's schedule:
Monday • Dixie State College, St. George
Tuesday • Southern Utah University, Cedar City
Wednesday • Milford, Beaver and Richfield
Thursday • Snow College in Ephraim and Salina.
Pershing boards the bus again the second week of July to visit eastern Utah.
