"The Book of Mormon" — the musical, not the book — could be knocking on Salt Lake City's door next year.

Negotiations are underway to bring the Tony-winning musical, by "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, to Salt Lake City sometime in 2013, Jane Ann Morrison wrote in a column earlier this month in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"It's a big hit, and the people of Salt Lake City and Utah should be able to see it. It's not my job to censor," said John Ballard, president of MagicSpace Entertainment, which books musicals in nine cities in the United States and Canada — including Salt Lake City.

Morrison pointed out the possibility of "The Book of Mormon" coming to predominantly Mormon Utah for ironic counterpoint — because the musical isn't coming to Sin City next year.
