A man wounded in a fatal Salt Lake City shooting improved Monday, police said.

The 33-year-old victim's identity was not released because he is also a witness and the investigation is ongoing, said Salt Lake City Police Detective Mike Hamideh. He remained hospitalized but his condition improved from critical to fair, Hamideh said.

Antonio Vasquez, 33, was killed in the shooting, which happened about 8 p.m. Saturday at a home near 450 N. Grant St. (750 West).

Police say Vasquez and the other man were visiting Michael Eugene Vigil, 36, when they began to argue. Vigil allegedly grabbed a handgun and fired at least 10 shots across an entire city block.

In addition to the two men, an 8-year-old boy in a car was grazed and suffered minor injuries. A woman told The Tribune she fled to a neighbor's house with her young son as Vigil walked toward them with a gun, kicking the door several times after she ran inside.

Vigil was arrested on suspicion of aggravated murder, criminal attempt to commit a capital felony and a weapons violation, first-degree felonies, as well as misdemeanor reckless endangerment and a warrant for operating a vehicle without insurance and possession of marijuana, jail records show.

Vigil has previous convictions for drug possession, assault and other charges, most recently in 2010, according to Utah court records. A jail booking statement said he admitted to shooting the two men.
