Both directions of State Road 191 were closed for two hours near Vernal on Tuesday morning after a semi-rig toppled as it attempted to take a curve too fast, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said the truck's driver, a 45-year-old Garland, Texas man, was cited for speeding after witnesses told troopers the southbound rig had been passing other vehicles well above the speed limit prior to the 7:07 a.m. crash 19 miles north of Vernal.

The drive was unhurt and no other vehicles were involved in the accident, but the crash did close down both directions of SR-191 while firefighters and hazmat crews cleaned up the chemicals.

Johnson said the spill from the rig was small, consisting of otherwise unspecified chemicals used in oil and gasoline preparation.remims@sltrib.com
