Throughout August, Tribune writers have tasted our way through some of Utah's finest frozen confections, including ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt and shave ice. Today's pick:

Strawberry banana smoothie • At Planet Yogurt, customers can create hundreds of variations of smoothies. Choose up to two yogurt flavors and three fruits with a splash of either orange juice or apple juice. The result is a refreshing fruity sensation, perfect for the end of summer.

Planet Yogurt • 9096 S. Village Shop Drive, Quarry Bend Shopping Center, Sandy; 801-260-6888.

Price • $3.55.

Shop talk • Cottonwood Heights contractor Thomas Cobb started Planet Yogurt two years ago. His wife — who is from California — saw self-serve yogurt businesses taking off, and the couple wanted a business to generate money for their kids. Everything he earns at the store is saved for their two children "to ensure my kids have a wonderful life as adults." The business not only provides combinations from 12 flavors of yogurt and more than 50 toppings, it also sells snow cones. In a month or so, it will begin selling boba tapioca drinks.
